  • Question 1. Getting your new gas fire installed?

  • (Answer)Our fire experts here at Aquaflames recommend that our qualified Corgi and Hetas registered engineers install your new fire feature.

  • Question 2. What type of gas fire can I have in my home?

  • (Answer) Flue Types
What type of flue do I have?

    Class I
Normally a property older than 1960 will have this type of flue. It will be a brick built chimney, suitable for a solid fuel fire and can be identified by the clay fire back or “chair brick” at the base of the opening. It will have a minimum diameter of 7” (175mm) and will terminate to a clay pot or cowl. The vast majority of fires are suitable for this type of flue.

    Class II
There are two main types of this flue:

    1. An older property where the chimney is unsound will be lined with a 5” (125mm) flexible steel flue lining, which will be sealed at the top and bottom. This will terminate to a gas cowl. This type of flue is not suitable for a solid fuel fire or open basket

    2. A modern property without a chimney may well have a 5” (125mm) rigid sectional steel flue system. This will terminate through a short length of steel pipe to a gas cowl. This type of flue is not suitable for a solid fuel fire or open basket

    Pre-Cast Flue
Most modern properties will have this type of flue. It is a sectional concrete flue block system and can be identified by the starter block or letter box at the base of the opening. This terminates to a purpose made raised ridge tile. This type of flue is not suitable for a solid fuel fire or open basket.

    No Chimney or Flue
If you have no chimney or flue, then you have the following options:

    1. A Power flue, Fanned flue or Turbo flue gas fire

    2. An Electric fire

    3. A Balanced flue gas fire

    4. A Flue-less gas fire (new catalytic converter technology)

    2. I haven’t got a chimney or a flue – can I still have a gas fire?

You still have a wide range of gas fires to choose from: Balanced Flue fires are glass fronted and need to be fitted to an outside wall – the fires can be wall mounted or fitted to a fireplace. Fan-flue or Power flue fires offer the beauty of an open fronted fire with “real” flames without the need for a chimney or flue – these units are supplied complete for installation to a suitable outside wall – an electrical supply is required with these types of gas fire. Catalytic or Flueless fires do not require any chimney or flue or even an outside wall – these fires use the latest in gas fire technology and can be installed virtually anywhere – the combustion gases produced by the fire pass through a catalytic converter within the appliance which converts the poisonous Carbon Monoxide into harmless Carbon Dioxide and water vapour.

  • Question 3. I don’t understand flueless fires and stoves - are they safe?

  • (Answer) Yes, flueless fires incorporate a catalytic converter that converts the poisonous gases into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapour. This results in an appliance which is 100% efficient. Because of this amazing efficiency the energy input to the fire is dramatically reduced, resulting in lower running costs. Flueless appliances require nothing more than a gas supply, together with a minimum sized room (30 cubic metres or approximately 12’ x 12’

  • Question 4. I don’t have a mains gas supply to my house but I would prefer a real flame fire, what do you recommend?

  • (Answer) Aquaflames have taken the time to include fires that have an option of L.P.G. gas so you still enjoy that real flame fire effect.

  • Question 5. What about Electric Fires?

  • (Answer) Electric fires have changed dramatically since the days of the wall mounted 2-element fire. Today’s electric fires are available in a variety of styles to suit every home. Available to fit into a traditional fireplace, with a spacer frame against a flat wall or even “hole-in-the-wall” for that contemporary look.

  • Question 6. Can I place my order by telephone?

  • (Answer) Yes we are happy to take telephone orders,
